Is the world run by psychopaths? John Lennon thought so, and many of us would have to agree with him in the decades that have passed since this clip was recorded. A compilation of old interviews with the former Beatle make for interesting viewing: he discusses people power, oppression and the madness of the world we live in, and poses some important questions to consider. For example: If the aims of world leaders are to provide security, well-being and peace for the people, why on earth do they do things that create the opposite results? It’s a logical and intelligent point, which only seems more relevant as we approach 2015.
“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives,” Lennon states in the video. “If anyone can put on paper what (governments) are actually trying to do and what they think they’re doing, I’d be very pleased to know. I think they’re all insane.”
He goes on: “I’m liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That’s what’s insane about it.” Good point.
Lennon argues we don’t need governments at all: “The people have the power, all we have to do is awaken that power in the people,” he says with Yoko at his side. “The people are unaware. They’re not educated to realize that they have power. The system is so geared that everyone believes the government will fix everything. We are the government.”
