It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of the actor Leonard Nimoy - best known for his portrayal of the character Mr Spock in the Star Trek TV programmes and films.

Star Trek the original series was one of the most groundbreaking TV programmes of all time with Mr Spock being pivotal to its success.
